About Us

A Hidden Gem

Established as an American Viticultural Area in 2011, Coombsville is Napa Valley’s 16th and newest appellation. A five-minute drive from downtown Napa, the region expands 11,000 acres, but only 13% is planted under vine — the remainder is rolling hills of wild landscape dotted with homes and horses. Often described as Napa's hidden gem, Coombsville harkens back to a more nostalgic Napa where everyone has their hands on the land.

Ideal Climate

While most of Napa Valley can reach soaring temperatures during the summer, Coombsville’s location at the Southeastern tip of Napa makes it an average of ten degrees cooler than neighboring AVAs. It’s close to San Pablo Bay, resulting in foggy mornings and cool evenings. The weather is more moderate than the rest of Napa—it doesn’t get as hot in summer or as cold in winter. This means our grapes need extra time on the vines to ripen, which create flavors that are distinctly Napa but unusually complex.

Ideal Climate

This longer growing season creates more concentrated fruit and vibrant, nuanced wine.

Quality Over Quantity

No AVA application in the history of AVA applications has ever received such a positive response as that of Coombsville. There was not one letter of opposition of bestowing AVA status to Coombsville. The reason? Our reputation for producing bespoke, small-batch wines and nuanced fruit create unique characteristics that make our region stand apart from others.

What is the Coombsville Vintners and Growers Association?

We are a Coombsville-based community of winemakers, farmers, growers, and vintners. Our mission is to promote the region we work and live in. This land is our livelihood, and by coming together to tell the story of Coombsville, we hope to share our craft with wine lovers from around the world.
The Coombsville Vintners and Growers Association (CVG) was founded in 2009 by a group of vintners including Tom Farella (Farella Vineyard), Tracey Reichow (Blackcat Vineyard), Tim Porter (Porter Family Vineyards), Ken Bernards (Ancien Wines), Rebecca Sciandri Griffin (Sciandri Family Vineyards), and Kari DiFabrio (Sodaro Estate Winery). It started as an informal Christmas party of neighbors and friends where everyone brought something to taste. Over 20 people came, and everyone agreed it would be a good idea to create an organization...
...At the same time, Farella and Brad Kitson (Kitson Wines) were writing the AVA approval application. The newly formed group wanted to be ready for Coombsville to become Napa’s newest AVA. On December 14, 2011, CVG’s dreams came true when Coombsville became Napa’s 16th AVA. We could’t wait to inform the world about this long-established and beloved area in Napa Valley.
